Offer Description

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to be part of the Advanced Omics Platforms (AOP) of Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre, to provide technical services to support the current operation.
 

Key Responsibilities

- Perform laboratory protocols to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific research.

- Perform routine laboratory protocols in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

- Handle fresh and archival (fresh frozen and FFPE) from patient material.

- Prepare high quality DNA and RNA from human specimens and samples according to SOPs.

- Perform quality control of DNA and RNA preparations according to SOPs.

- Perform data entry and sample tracking using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

- Producing accurate reports on DNA and RNA sample quality control.

- Preparation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) libraries.

- Troubleshoot and optimise library preparation protocols.

- Operate and maintain NGS platforms (e.g., Illumina, Oxford Nanopore and 10X Genomics) and related equipment.

- Efficiently resolve and document technical issues in a timely and clear manner.

- Develop positive relationships with internal teams and stakeholders.

- Ensure the care and cleanliness of the AOP designated lab space so as to comply with Quality System Regulation requirements.

- To work with other members of the AOP to help maintain laboratory stocks of kits, reagents and other consumable requirements.

- Participate in routine lab meetings and contribute to the planning and execution of research projects.

Essential Qualifications:

- BSc and MSc or other post-graduate level qualification in life or medical sciences

- Good scientific knowledge with demonstrated ability to perform routine laboratory protocols accurately and efficiently.

- Experience in extracting DNA and RNA from fresh frozen or fixed material.

- Demonstrated experience in using standard molecular techniques including, cloning and PCR.

- Experience in following SOPs and following experimental workflows accurately and efficiently.

- Experience in using and analysing the results obtained from PCR and Real-time PCR machines.

- General IT proficiency with an ability to generate basic reports.

- Good communication and organisational skills.

- Proficient in both English and Portuguese


Specific Requirements / Desirable Qualifications

- Experience in NGS library preparation, either manually or using automated liquid handling robotics.

- Experience in running and maintaining NGS instruments such as Illumina’s NextSeq2000.

- Experience in handling patient specimens and/or samples.

- Experience in data entry and sample tracking using LIMS.

- Experience in using TapeStation or equivalent platform for assessing DNA and/or RNA quality.

- Experience with document management systems.

About Us

The Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre is a state-of-the-art facility comprising research laboratories, a day hospital, a surgical centre, as well as inpatient and intensive care facilities. The mission of the Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre is to develop new and effective treatments for pancreatic cancer. To accomplish this goal a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, clinicians, clinical trials specialists, cancer scientists, genomics experts and computational biologists work together to deliver world-leading outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer.

The Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre is also closely integrated with the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown. Members of the Champalimaud Research Programme (CR) and the Champalimaud Clinical Centre (CCC), work together to investigate fundamental biological processes and search for effective solutions to alleviate the burden of oncological, neurological and mental diseases, while providing state-of-the-art care to the patients of the CCC. With 479 members, including group leaders, postdocs, PhD and MSc students, research technicians and highly specialised research staff, the CR community encompasses 39 nationalities.

Within the Lisbon Ocean Campus, CF will expand its research, technological development, innovation, and clinical practice in the digital therapeutics field.
