Mission
Ethics Council
The Champalimaud Foundation's Ethics Council main mission is to disseminate and ensure the observance of the highest ethical standards in the exercise of its activity within the scope of biomedical sciences. It acts as an advisory body to the Champalimaud Foundation, analysing and reflecting on all medical practice ethical issues.
The Ethics Council also functions as the institutional Health Ethics Committee (Comissão de Ética para a Saúde (CES)), as provided for in Decree-Law No. 80/2018 of 15 October, safeguarding adherence to the ethical principles of human dignity, beneficence, justice, and personal autonomy in healthcare delivery and clinical research. It upholds and protects the rights and duties of both patients and professionals within the Foundation.

The internal regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation's Ethics Council establishes the principles and rules that regulate its operation in accordance with the provisions of Law-Decree n.º 80/2018 of October 15.

Disseminate, Educate, Reflect
The Ethics Council promotes, with the Champalimaud Foundation, training programmes in order to deepen and encourage reflection on issues related to the ethics and bioethics of the research developed at the institution.
