Chemotherapy Service
A unique environment, a unique clinical care
A systemic treatment uses drugs destined to fight cancer and whose action impacts on the whole organism. This type of treatment can be administered in different ways and in a personalised manner for each patient. The Champalimaud Clinical Centre offers all its patients an area specially designed for the administration of innovative forms of systemic treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, treatment with blood components, and a diverse set of other systemic therapies used for treating cancer.

Day Hospital
Fighting the disease in every possible way
The day hospital is equipped with 32 individual treatment stations, designed to ensure maximum privacy and comfort for the patient in order to attenuate the physical and mental distress associated with the treatment process. We have thus created a unique environment where the patient can choose to receive treatment in the dedicated indoor garden, conceived to convey feelings of tranquillity, peace, and well-being. Inside the Centre, all spaces have also been designed to have a view over one of the Foundation’s gardens.
In the day hospital, each individual treatment station contains a high-quality armchair, to provide maximum comfort to the patient, as well as cable TV and wireless access to the internet. For total patient convenience, the day hospital provides the means for the patient to have his or her personal belongings close-by during the whole treatment. This space is also conceived to allow attendants, family, or friends to remain next to the patient, with all the necessary conditions for well-being.
The Champalimaud Clinical Centre is totally equipped to prepare and handle all the necessary drugs for treatment at the day hospital. Our pharmacy department ensures that all the medication given to patients complies with the highest safety and efficacy standards. It also seeks to keep up-to-date on the latest technological advances in the area and to guarantee that the best care and medications are made available to the patients.
As health care medicine has evolved, the interventional component of the Day Hospital has grown. Our aim is to attenuate the hospital-type environment and at the CCC we have been very focused on creating an environment that looks as little as possible like a hospital.
