On Sunday, October 5th, 2025, the 14th edition of the Champalimaud Foundation Trophy Regatta filled the Tagus River with sails, colour, and energy. Organised in partnership with Lisbon’s Naval Association (ANL), the regatta once again brought together the sailing community and the Champalimaud Foundation in a spirit of competition and celebration.
This year’s event carried an added significance, as it marked the 15th anniversary of the inauguration of the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, as well as the 385th year of Portugal’s Independence Restoration. These celebrations gave the day an even more symbolic and festive atmosphere, reinforcing the strong connection between the Foundation, the city of Lisbon, and Portugal's cultural heritage.
The regatta saw a strong turnout, with 35 boats competing in the ANC Class (Divisions A, B, D, and E), 5 boats in the ORC Class (Divisions A and B), and 4 traditional boats, showcasing both the diversity and tradition of Portuguese sailing.
A special highlight of the day was the participation of 31 Champalimaud Foundation staff members, who were able to experience the regatta from a privileged perspective on board the Tagus Navy boat Emília. From the heart of the Tagus, they enjoyed a unique view of the race and the atmosphere on the water.
The regatta once again combined sport, tradition, and community, reinforcing its role as a meeting point between the sailing world and the Champalimaud Foundation. The event concluded with the prize-giving ceremony, celebrating the skill, energy, and dedication of all the crews who took part in this sports event.
The Champalimaud Foundation Trophy Regatta continues to grow each year, affirming its place as both a sporting highlight and a moment of fellowship on the Tagus.
