Professor Parreira, Clinical Director of the Champalimaud Clinical Centre since its founding, was distinguished by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Public Instruction. The ceremony took place in Palácio de Belém on the 14th of january, 2026.
During the formal session, the President of the Republic highlighted Professor Parreira’s exemplary career, emphasising his sustained contribution to education, the training of several generations of medical students, and the strengthening of the academic community. The distinction recognises the national significance of his pedagogical, scientific, and institutional work, as well as the lasting impact of his legacy.
The Order of Public Instruction is a civil honour of the Portuguese State that recognises outstanding service to the cause of education and teaching. The rank of Grand Officer, one of the highest within the Order, is reserved for individuals whose contributions are of particular distinction and public impact.
