The award recognises initiatives with a significant environmental, social and governance impact within the Portuguese market. Other nominees in this category included EDP, with the project Moonshot Next Best Action, Fundação MEO, with Música com Sentido, and NOS, with the project 5G enabler de uma indústria mais eficiente, developed in partnership with Sumol Compal.
According to João Silveira Botelho, Vice-President of the Champalimaud Foundation, “This award highlights the importance of the sustainability project the Champalimaud Foundation has been developing, which is pioneering on a global scale within the healthcare sector. This is a particularly challenging area from an environmental perspective: today, healthcare is one of the world’s most polluting sectors, responsible for more emissions than the aviation industry and, if it were a country, it would rank as the fifth largest emitter globally.”
With nearly four decades of history, the IRGAwards aim to promote best practices in leadership, transparency, innovation and value creation within the Portuguese business landscape. The 2026 edition once again served as a platform for reflection on the challenges of economic, technological and social transformation.
