The Best Scientists in the World ranking is published annually by Research.com and is based mainly on bibliometric data from OpenAlex and Crossref, as well as other data sources. Citation metrics were collected on 12 January 2026. Each scientist’s position is determined solely by their h-index, a metric that combines the number of a researcher’s publications with the number of citations they receive.
