The Champalimaud Foundation and the IAEA are thus starting a partnership for the development of research, treatment and diagnosis of oncological diseases. The collaboration focuses on the areas of radiation oncology, diagnostic medical imaging, nuclear medicine and medical physics.
The purpose of this partnership is to establish a framework for cooperation between the two institutions in the field of oncology in different areas:
- Collaboration in research and publications;
- Exchange and dissemination of information, including best practices;
- Assistance in training and skill-building;
- Development of educational and training courses;
- Participation in expert missions to low- and low-middle-income IAEA member countries;
- Collaboration in the organisation of meetings and workshops;
- Providing expertise to support IAEA training activities for member states.
As stated by Leonor Beleza, president of the Champalimaud Foundation, “we believe that this partnership will result in benefits for Science and for the treatment of people with oncological disease. Knowledge development is a collaborative process and we are proud to be able to establish this agreement with a world renowned institution”.
The partnership will also involve the creation of internships at the Champalimaud Clinical Centre for beneficiaries of the IAEA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Scholarship Programme.
