Communicating science: Illustrating how discoveries are made with animated stories

Even though science belongs to everyone, the scientific language often places it well beyond our reach. In a European Commission Joint Research Centre initiative, which aims to promote and disseminate Portuguese culture, “Portuguese Semester” spoke with the CCU Communication, Events and Outreach Team to explore how we can make science more attainable.

Communicating science: Illustrating how discoveries are made with animated stories

The starting point for the discussion was the “Inside the Unknown” Science Collection, a project developed by this group in collaboration with Champalimaud Research Labs. The genesis of the project, the creative process behind it, the articulation of all the team’s expertises, main challenges and evaluation metrics, were some of the topics addressed in this conversation. The audience played an important role in this session, creating a lively and interactive Q&A moment that allowed the team to go deep into the Science Collection process.
