Saint-Maurice Lab
The Physical Activity & Quality of Life lab generates actionable science on physical activity and sleep for clinical applications and improvement of cancer patients quality of life. Research in our lab is primarily focused on 1) developing evidence-based exercise programs to improve cancer treatment and survivorship health outcomes, and 2) identifying wearable-based (e.g., smartwatch) metrics (e.g., walking cadence) that can be used to stratify patients’ risk for poor cancer prognosis and individualize cancer treatment plans. For example, our most recent ongoing studies include a randomized trial of resistance exercise and breast cancer tumor biomarkers, and characterization of sleep patterns during neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer using a contactless sleep device that is placed under the bed mattress and that is recording sleep for 4 consecutive months.
