Ar Event - Evolving emotions: getting a feel for the world

Today, the general view about the role emotions play in our lives has radically evolved, and the importance of emotions throughout the animal kingdom has finally been recognised. Charles Darwin already intuited 150 years ago when he wrote that emotions are “a universal means of communication” across the animal kingdom. As for us humans, we now know that emotions literally shape every aspect of our lives, including things as unique to our species as rationality and morality.

Cosmos Within Us

On November 2021, in the Champalimaud Foundation's Auditorium, the multimedia artist Tupac Martir, in partnership with the Champalimaud Foundation, brought to the Portuguese public the awarded performance "Cosmos within Us". 

Anjo Solidão

BoCA - Gabriel Ferrandini and Gulbenkian choir - “Anjo Solidão”: 30 September - 1 October 2021

Bridges to the unknown established a partnership with BoCa - Bienal de Arte Contemporânea de Portugal and hosted the renowned composer and drummer Gabriel Ferrandini, at the Champalimaud Center Amphitheater.

Long-Term Residency Programme

Bridges to the Unknown hosts an Art-Science long-term Residency Programme (1-2 years), inviting artists to work in synergy with researchers and/or health professionals from the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown. The interdisciplinary research and creation process resulting from the residencies is then shared with the public in different formats (performances, round table discussions, exhibitions, films, installations, experiences, etc.).

 

Insight Inside

Open Dialogue @ Insight Inside Exhibition: 22 June, 7:30pm

 

The exhibition Insight Inside is the latest work by Clo Bourgard, in which the artist recycled waste materials from the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown's laboratories and clinic, in order to create sculptures that incite a reflection on the inner aesthetics of the human being.

Haita

Haita @ Sonar+ Festival Lisboa - 27 April 2022

Satore Studio’s installation Haita emerged from the art-science residency of the artist Tupac Martir, creative director and founder of Satore Studio, at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown. Haita was unveiled at Sonar+ in Lisbon. 

The piece was born from the exercise of imagining how a dancer’s choreography could be explored inside out, through cutting-edge scientific and creative technology developed by the studio.

Brain Awareness Week 2022

At long last, this year CR researchers were finally able to celebrate Brain Awareness Week in the best way possible - doing science with kids! The activities took place over two days, one at a school in Amadora and the other at Lisbon’s Science Centre, called “Pavilhão do Conhecimento”.

OCEAN CAMPUS: the new project that brings together the Port of Lisbon, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Champalimaud Foundation

The Ocean Campus will involve the redevelopment of a total of 64 hectares, in Lisbon and Oeiras. With an investment of 300 million euros, from mostly private funds, the campus will create multifunctional and environmentally sustainable spaces and teaching units, and will promote technological development and innovative research.

Science on the Walls

A team of researchers from the Champalimaud Foundation partnered with a group of street artists and created a set of artistic-scientific workshops that will take place during the afternoon of Saturday, 27th November, at the Junta de Freguesia das Águas Livres, in Cova da Moura - Amadora, open to all children and teenagers from this neighbourhood.
