Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz are a duo of dancers and choreographers who began collaborating in 2006 on the research and creation of performances, shows, soundtracks, videos, podcasts, and installations, crossing different contexts and blurring boundaries between artistic areas.

In 2023 and 2024, they are  artists in residency at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, as part of the Bridges to the unknown Art-Science Residency Programme, where they develop interdisciplinary research processes, in synergy with neuroscientists from the Champalimaud Foundation.

The concept for their piece - Noise - emerged during the residency, inspired by the meaning of noise in neuroscience, which can be defined as random fluctuations of signals within neural networks. These fluctuations are not associated with responses to stimuli (like a sound or an image), but can potentially represent meaningful information for the brain.

In Noise, Sofia and Vítor reimagine this notion as a metaphor for diverse and transformative states, which may appear random, but hold the potential for meaning.  Their performance explores encounters and disruptions as opportunities to discover, create, experiment and transform.

Within the Noise is an event displaying an adapted excerpt of the performance Noise, followed by a roundtable discussion with the artists Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, and the neuroscientists from Champalimaud Research, Joe Paton and Zach Mainen. Together, they will delve into the creative and investigative processes behind their work, offering an unique perspective on the dialogue between art and neuroscience.

Join us for an engaging evening exploring the intersection of art and science through the work of Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz.

The event will be held in English. Entrance is free and registration is mandatory, through this link.
