Champalimaud Foundation receives medal of merit awarded by the Portuguese Ministry of Health

The Champalimaud Foundation (CF) was one of four institutions, together with more than 20 individuals (health and pharmaceutical specialists, clinicians, nurses, health managers, etc.) to receive this year the Ministry of Health’s Medal for Distinguished Service - Gold Class, rewarding the work they developed for the benefit of Health in Portugal. The medals were awarded on April 7th, during a ceremony marking World Health Day which took place at the Champalimaud Foundation, in Lisbon.

First robotic mastectomy performed by a Portuguese surgical team at the Champalimaud Foundation

This procedure was done within the framework of the newly launched Programme for Minimally Invasive Robotic and Endoscopic Breast Surgery, an initiative developed by the Champalimaud Foundation as part of the surgical treatment options offered to selected breast cancer patients, representing a significant advancement in surgical innovation and patient-centred care.

Champalimaud Foundation’s brand reputation over time: results, context, and reflection

Brand rankings and reputation studies are published every year, nationally and internationally, often attracting attention for their league tables and headline positions. While such studies are inevitably shaped by methodological choices, sampling criteria, and contextual factors, they can nonetheless offer a useful lens for understanding how organisations are perceived within a shared ecosystem.

Champalimaud Foundation’s Gynaecology Unit Triples Annual Volume of Robotic Surgeries

Between February 2017 and December 2020, the team performed approximately 200 robotic procedures. Over the subsequent five years, from December 2020 to December 2025, this number more than doubled, reaching 500 procedures, an achievement that reflects the consolidation of a nationally recognised reference programme with extensive experience in robotic gynaecological surgery.
