This 2-day conference organised by the Champalimaud Foundation, in partnership with Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, will provide an overview of the scientific landscape in the area of physical activity and cancer, from prevention to rehabilitation and survivorship.
These are exciting times for research in this space as physical activity becomes more widely recognised as a powerful partner in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Natural ageing is one of the main risk factors for cancer. As we become older, the probability of developing cancer increases. This happens, on the one hand, because the probability of acquiring cancer-causing mutations grows as we live longer; and on the other, because our DNA repair mechanisms decline with age.

Using zebrafish “Avatars”, an animal model developed by the Cancer Development and Innate Immune Evasion lab at the Champalimaud Foundation (CF), led by Rita Fior, Mayra Martínez-López – a former PhD student at the lab now working at the Universidad de las Américas in Quito, Ecuador – and colleagues studied the initial steps of the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine’s action on bladder cancer cells.

The Champalimaud Clinical Centre intends to admit a newly qualified specialist in gastroenterology, with a maximum of 24 months of specialist, and who seeks to develop interventional endoscopy skills, in all the range of its techniques, including the biliopancreatic area, but also with a focus on the resection of early lesions, echoendoscopy and palliative approaches.
The Champalimaud Clinical Center intends to admit on a full-time basis and full dedication.
